In looking at the resale value of Subarus, it seems they hold value very well. It makes me consider getting new. I bought new once before and decided that I would never do it again. But if a 2008 outback with 20K miles is only a few thousand less than a comparable new model, why not new?

If you have $30k in the bank, then shit just buy new for the peace of mind and don't worry about the money. If you are financing a large portion of the price, consider getting an older one that has depreciated more. Instead of looking for one with 20k miles, get one with 75k miles and save yourself the additional cash. The car has taken its full depreciation hit at that point, and you will be able to cover any problems that might crop up. My brother just bought a sweet Outback wagon with 85k miles for $7.5k in Portland. It should serve him well for years to come.

The only reason I bought the WRX new was I wanted a turbo, and felt it was risky to buy a used one. Would I buy new again? Not if it was a natural aspirated model. But If I ever get a STI, I'll be buying it new.
