As the media of the right--Fox News, Rush--becomes more strident and antagonistic in its positions and rhetoric, the media of the left--John Stewart, Colbert--becomes increasingly sarcastic, farcical and derisively mocking. In doing so, they foment further division which, in turn, leads to less and less substantive conversation. These outlets reflect/influence the attitudes of their respective audiences, two groups that already don't like to talk with one another.
I'm not blaming the media as much as I'm blaming the desire of people to learn about the Iraq War on the same channel as they find out about Britney's vag; a news outlet that covers the Baucus Bill should not also feature--on the same page--a photo of Kanye West/Gay Fish, for it makes it harder to tell what's serious news and what's inane blather.
