Oh and as far as the Canyon hikes go, day hiking actually IN the canyon can be brutal. You go down, maybe as far as the river, and then you hike up, and up and up. You may want to do a little of that in-canyon hiking one day and then the next, take a relaxing bike ride to Hermit's Rest:

As a seasoned Grand Canyon touron from the flat lands, the Bright Angel Trail is decent. I noticed the fatties tend to stay off this one because it says "steep" in the description. But rest assured, if you hike around the RRG, your sweet ass can handle it just fine.

edit: Just don't try to go down to the river, as lox posted above. I've hiked a few layers down and turned back.

Also, if joules is around, have her draw you a map to the "secret" place down some access road. It's secluded, no one seems to go there, and the view is great.
