Best Crashpads for 2021

Best Crashpads for 2021

Postby Lox » Sat Feb 20, 2021 10:10 pm

Since they haven't yet started importing the Ocun Paddy Incubator into the US and therefore the greatest bigpad ever made is unavailable here, I have to buy an inferior pad. I want to talk about where we are with that right now. Do I really have to buy an Organic pad and then talk about the color choices I made and what they mean to me with all the other Organic pad dooshbags at the crag? Is there anything else on the market that comes close?

Note that I have a full quiver of pads in a basement in Estes. So this is just going to be the ones on top that you see in the pics. So it is important to buy pads that look good, but not the same pads that everyone else have that look good... but like, better functioning and also better looking pads.

GO.

I like my Send pads. Best crash pads I’ve ever had. Burly, easy to carry, and does the job. Plus they’ve got options, like a thin sketch mat for low, dirty starts. And the cash will go into some of your old buddies’ pockets, instead of some corporation’s. They let you pick your colors/configuration, so if you wanna talk about that, go for it.

I used a Flashed pad a long time ago that maybe absorbed more impact, but that sucker was really heavy and awkward to haul, so more of a home gym mat IMO.

In this economy you'd be a fool to not go full bespoke and front some exclusive brand that doesn't exist. Lox brand PadLox will help you beat your project into submission. Scratch pads made with free-range Qiviut are the future of putting Organic snobs in their place.

Fronting exclusive brands that don't exist is my day job. I actually need a crashpad. I like the Send crashpad, but it is just an uncircumcised Organic pad. All bunched up on the top with one less color and more folds to hide dirt and odors. Nasty.

Ok I gotta practice this shit so peeps like respect me at the crag:

'Bro, I went with ice blue and neon pink on a classic black foundation for a colorway that brings a retro vibe to images of me serenely cruising sick highballs in the forest. Check out my latest edit and SMASH THAT FUCKIN LIKE AND/OR SUBSCRIBE BUTTON YOU FUCKIN CHUFFER.'

So the last bit needs some work and I definitely have to stop watching so much youtube. Hashtag always grinding. Hashtag totesstruggs. Hashtag andyouwillknowusbythetrailofdead...

Velour always screams class and VooDoo is still in business, I think.

Ok so I thought they were all sold out online and it looks like they are introducing a hinge, but with the velvet top. I have to say that with a hinge, I like how the Organic color bands kind of reinforce the surface laterally. I would worry about a hinge with the velour top.

I am also notoriously rough on crashpads. I have to say that the Organic I inherited in bleau from ET held up really well on a LOT of bike trips through the forest.

I am talking myself into this dumb trendy pad. But I draw the line at getting a colorway that includes camouflage plus a neon color...

We say colorway now and pretend it has always been a thing. BTW.

As for dirt/smells, it’s a crash pad that’s sitting on slimy, decomposing I-don’t-want-to-know-what at the bottom of limestone cliffs. I brush em off and use a baby wipe if needed. I can’t say I’ve seen much difference between the ballistic nylon that most pad manufacturers use, but I remember the auto carpet on my Cordless getting its own little ecosystem, which is probably why no one uses that anymore. So I’d avoid velour too.

Regarding looks/customization, I’d buy a Sharpie if I wanted to get artsy. But you have fun with your colorways.

I’m more interested in impact and ease of carrying. Can I get a couple pads in with one trip and not snapping every tree branch on the way? And will it keep me from breaking an ankle? I didn’t like my Mad Pads (didn’t learn after the first) due to blown cells after little use and relatively short falls. I don’t like Organic cause they seem to flatten out to where they don’t absorb much after a few months. I liked the Metolius padding, but the quality wasn’t as good as Send re:straps, buckles, etc.

Either way still gonna be a lot longer than Lox's dick.

I've got a 5" organic and it's a nightmare on long approaches. You better start experimenting with peptides if you're gonna fuck w it, I had to cut to wrestle at your adult weight before I was even a teenager.
