Isn't this put up in chalk like some kind of plat de jour menu, though always the same?

Yep. But the blog post by the dooshbag that erased the line said it took him two sessions with brushes and water. Then it was back the next day.

that's hilarious. sometimes saving the day just means making a problem up.

so in this case, it appears the problem was contrived, then 'solved', then the solution was in turn solved. a perfect triad mediating opposite perspectives. the basis of good drama really. I wonder what the catharsis was like?

cleaning rock is a kind of zen labour camp pathway to enlightenment.

It's kinda like boldering itself in a strange way.

Contrive a problem. Solve it. Then watch the next guy solve your solution immediately.

Indeed. Sometimes first instinct is to go looking for some rationale and saving grace in what are simply stupid behaviours, bouldering notwithstanding.

A similar thing happened in reverse at an old spot, where a developer began painting names and pictures on problems. It seemed curious, but whatever. then a video of the area came out, and the dirtbags of easy grace at dr topo did some video magic to cover over the rock painting. It was like a soviet era airbrushing of history, with a blurry grey absence where you knew something was.

I wouldn't go handing out paintbrushes at the crags, though the font or eastern europe thing for signs on the rock is weirdly interesting. but busting kids for sidewalk chalk hopscotch routes is obsessive in all the wrong directions.
