rack envy. I've been kicking around the idea of getting something like this: http://www.rei.com/product/697096. anyone have experience with these things? I don't feel like building a new commuter bike just because the current roadie isn't compatible with normal racks asdf.

those racks are "okay".
The clamp will scratch your seatpost if you care about those things (I do).
They tend to be heavier than conventional racks.
Why can't you use a conventional rack, is your bike frame all carbon?
You can get thingys like this to fit a rack to a frame without eyelets, and not scratch your frame:

Look closer at the pic of my bike, there's no eyelets, and it's carbon with steel lugs. The only other option I'd seen so far was what looked like the metal equivalent of sturdy zip ties. Any chance you can link that little thing to a product page and not just a jpg? haven't seen that before, looks like a decent option ...

here:http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=146_240 at the bottom of the page.
I would be hesitant clamping stuff to carbon, too much torque and it cracks.
You may consider a seat mounted bag, like an acorn bag:
http://www.acornbags.com/medbag.html
Also, keep an eye and ear out on your carbon/steel lug frame, that design is known for occasionally disjointing . Not common but something to monitor.

Made it rideable this morning. Managed to crossthread the BB with my awesome pedaling power on the way home from work though. Any of you (rye, norsk) seen a Mavic Magic BB around? There's one up on ebay for ~70 shipped, but fukkk.

Maybe the threads could be retapped? There is at least one other threadless type bottom bracket but I can't remember the brand. I have the mavic type on my paramount, I was told I may never have to service it. Not sure why it was installed...

no shit. a guy i know is dh racing on one. definitely a unique design (jackshaft...lol). i guess if your going to spend $4500 on a frame you probably don't mind having to buy two bottom brackets.

anyway, here's my desktop bg/future build

or a transition blindside but i'm leaning toward a banshee.

Keystone. That one is a bit much, I'd probably set it up more as a freeride bike rather than a DH. But since my friend is selling me his Transition for cheap, I'll probably be riding that.
