The ultimate highballer passed away in a free soloing accident near Bishop yesterday, sources confirm. He'll be missed by many, including myself, as a positive member of our community. By others, presumably some of you, he won't. Either way, it hits closer to home for most (all?) of us than Jackson, that's for sure. RIP fo realz.

A real shame. The climbing community has lost a true legend.

Bachar definitely seemed larger than life, stronger than the rock itself, and a little invincible. Tragic and poetic he went out doing what he loved and was known for. I hope his son finds some consolation in that and in his father's huge legacy.

Climbing's website has two short, totally dated videos that show how smooth Bachar was. Absolute control 10 ft or 100 ft off the ground. RIP.

Pretty heartbreaking to read his son's thread...he says he told his dad not to go free solo that day.
