Everyone has one of these gizmos and I sort of want one, although I can get internet access just about anywhere, which is why I don't get why they're so popular.
I'm just looking to replace my $20 nokia prepaid phone with something that can browse the web and do other cool shiz. I may wait for Verizon to come out with a platform, but then i would have to wait for 3rd party apps to come out on the new phone.
I don't text much, and don't really use my phone much, but have enjoyed playing with the i-phones other folks own.
I'd like some pros and cons of this i-phone thing i see everyday... of course from mac/i-phone users plz. thx.

Seems to me, as an iPhone user, that plenty of other phones work just as well, if not better

I got one for my 30th birthday and in general it is nice to have internet when you want it. I'm not a big phone person and I actually liked my older ghetto text phone better for texting, which is the main thing I use my phone for. You can get the price plan down to $60/month if you don't use that much data/minutes, I believe mine is 450 anytime rollover minutes, unlimited night/weekend, 1500 texts, 200mb data/month. I seem to average around 40mb/month with light internet usage. The droids I have used arn't quite as snappy as the iPhone, though the latest offering from google was pretty comparable when my buddy showed it to me.

Unless you've got an unlimited data plan (and will actually use it) on one of the older phones, iphone is no longer worth it. Slick for sure, but now isn't an especially good time to jump on that wagon.

I would probably buy a tested product that crosses platforms. You aren't early adopting the tech, just the application specific to the new network. I can't imagine the iPhone 4 itself having a Verison-specific hardware issue. If the phone works and Verison has decent network, I say upgrade if you want to. That ALL being said, do yourself a favor and upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy S android phone.

Turns out iPhones and Droids are both great. I prefer iPhone because I'm a developer and you can't make any money at all on the Android store. I also choose iPhone because I think other developers think the same way, therefore more apps made by people who care about doing a good job and getting paid. That's not to say there aren't great apps on the Android platform. You really can't go wrong these days. FWIW, Verizon iPhone4 will use CDMA so you can't use data+voice at the same time unlike the AT&T iPhone which uses GSM.

They are so useful around the set at work that I'm getting one... But I can't decide whether to just get a iphone4 now, or wait six months for the 5. Decisions decisions.
