why aren't they pushing for fully-privatized military? u want terrorist dead, y u not just pay big corporation to do it? and then all the rational people not scarred of terrorism (because it's statistically so unlikely to kill u) just don't subscribe for murder company, inc protection.
that would be like a conservative idea i might get behind.
and also, if you're all about individual freedomz, y u not support legalized weed and other cool drugs, abortion, and all sorts of gayness.
i mean what's the point in having a philosophy if you can't even stick to it?
The original conservatives, the ones that helped draft the Constitution, were adamantly against the formation of a standing army/military. Among many other reasons, including the fiscal responsibility of something as titanic as a military, they believed, as they wrote in the second amendment, that an army could be used as a tool of oppression by the wrong leaders.
The way the military is now, it is mostly privatized. At least the most profitable parts. Especially the logistical aspect of transporting an insane amount of machinery, weaponry, food, fuel, and personnel. I.e. Halliburton, KBR, and International Oil Trading Co. So these companies, and weapons manufacturers, procure huge contracts, and sub out the bulk of the work. And most manufacturing jobs are done somewhere else. And tax dollars pick up the shit end like paying for those services, paying soldiers salaries, the massive expense of paying for weapons and military vehicles, and veterans benefits. Which usually end up getting cut because the bulk of the money allocated for the war went to profitable corporations, leaving not much for the people who fought in the war.
And the corporate/government business model is much the same. Corporations who do business on a National and global level, and are blessed by Repubs as "job creators" enjoy massive profits margins while tax payers pay for the aspects of their business that are associated with the government like taxes, effectively turning that tax burden into revenue. And the Republican party have basically built that business model. Guys like Greenspan being one of the architects. Its basically a giant scam. And as long as the US is following that business model, there will never be enough money for social programs. Ever.
And Im just writing what you probably already know, and what most people who read already know. And even though manufacturing during world war 2 brought us out of the depression and into an extremely stable economy, and the Iraq war bankrupt us, this new model will be the one that becomes the norm. Because its what makes America great.
