Can you make sure it's in .mov format?

the camera saves video as an .mov file... the optical image stabilizer is neet but I should get myself a gorillapod before I shoot more hot boldering action

uh, no. the 5d mk2 is kind of revolutionizing the whole industry right now. HD video through high end glass is sick. nikon will catch up.
i have a video camera. its awesome. but if i had the money, i would probably get the 5d mk2. i had to get an adaptor so its big and heavy, the test footage looks awesome so hopefully i will come back with something worth editing.

Werd. But I thought there were still some gaps in the interface for shooting along with auto-focusing issues. Am I misinformed...maybe thinking of an entirely different camera.

the d700 doesn't have (or need or want) video. it is a photographic camera. for photographs. and it takes better pictures than you do, all on its own.

Did you get the d700 because of personal bias to Nikons from past use? Or, maybe to put it a different way, did you look at an equivalent Canon camera as a possible purchase?

Canon's equivalent is the 5d mark II that shoots the video, and it's about $500 more, which isn't alot, but if you already have nikkkor lenses, its a hard switch to make. Canon's only other fx is their flagship EOS 1Ds Mark III, and those are around $6k (which I don't understand...)

The D700 is so tits tho. Love mine.

i have nikon glass and the low-light performance of nikon full frames is second to none. those two things made my decision easy. totally flabbergasted by people who think there's a big diff between nikon & canon. i know many pros who shoot both. and by pros, i mean people who make very good livings just ONLY their photographs. the top models in both camps are amazing, but if you don't know how to spot/create good lighting, compose a picture, and be in the right place at the right time, they're all just fancy paperweights.

Word. Good photogs take good pics regardless, but there's still a difference between a good photog with a good camera and a good photog with a shitty camera. Unfortunately I'm a shitty photog with a shitty camera, but at least I take better pics than Criz.

I had a play with a friend's 5d Mk II - zomg, noise-free at ISO3200. That's pretty dope too though... but why is there a dog in your office?

don't mean it's gonna look good. not sure about the d3s...i feel like the video is about to make a leap from good to unbelievable in these slrs...or maybe they'll just start using slr tech in hand-held video cams. either way, here's some crappy shots from my crappy camera. since i'll never have time to get out climbing, these are the best i can do for now.
