Something slow and comfortable that sounds good.

Undecided.

Triumph Bonneville

Ducati Monster

BMW GS800 (doesn't sound good but still, although out of my price range :-( )

Some Japanese enduro style bike.

Ideas?

Cruising around town, and going to work mostly. Something slow and good for learning, with some style and sound to it.

I like a Bonneville like this:

And the price would have to be that or lower...

I'm a total motorcycle newb, but I refuse to die of old age without ever owning and riding a cycle.

I know Triumphs aren't the most reliable, but I have a Triumph mechanic right down the road. LOL. (I'm a pretty decent wrencher myself)

While super sweet looking, I doubt I could find parts for that thing. Heh.

Aesthetics wise you are totally on the right track though.

My dad has a 2006 or so Bonneville that he never rides, I'm sure you can take it out for a spin if you want to check one out. If it has 5k miles on it I'd be shocked.

thats what they do, they're either in the garage or at the shop. the allure to those bikes is that you can see the motor ...

I mean, buddy of mine in NYC rides his all the time and takes it on 1000+ mile road trips with his friend and his Tiger every year. He's never had a problem on the long trips and keeps it in running order without too much trouble. How much of that is just reputation from back in the day when they were problematic?

What about this lil guy?

Actually the more I look the more this lil guy us alluring. Small motor, slow, light, retro style, and CHEAP. If I can get in under a grand that is SICK. That bike would be a cool neighborhood get around bike and probably good for wrenching on. Word.
