I have never ridden a motorcycle.
In high speed cornering, where a car or bike is fully committed to a line and is cornering at the limit, a botched shift that is improperly revmatched can cause the rear tires to lock up quickly and can unsettle the car (or I presume bike) enough to cause it to leave the road. This becomes more of a problem the more aggressive you have your diff set in a car.
