I dunno, and it is not good political dialogue. The GOP is already distancing itself from those types. But to call Joe Wilson a racist is uncalled for and wrong. A ruffian of the worst sort, maybe... but racist? Really?

That said, there is no question that there is a racist element which is devoted to bringing about the failure of anything related to B. Obama.

I think it's because they consume the most fear media. They seek it out in large quanitities and cannot get enough.

As the media of the right--Fox News, Rush--becomes more strident and antagonistic in its positions and rhetoric, the media of the left--John Stewart, Colbert--becomes increasingly sarcastic, farcical and derisively mocking. In doing so, they foment further division which, in turn, leads to less and less substantive conversation. These outlets reflect/influence the attitudes of their respective audiences, two groups that already don't like to talk with one another.

I'm not blaming the media as much as I'm blaming the desire of people to learn about the Iraq War on the same channel as they find out about Britney's vag; a news outlet that covers the Baucus Bill should not also feature--on the same page--a photo of Kanye West/Gay Fish, for it makes it harder to tell what's serious news and what's inane blather.

First, I don't think Stewart/Colbert would ever claim to be news. . . They are entertainment, making fun of the news. Unlike Fox which does claim to be news, which is genuinely insulting. Unlike SHRN, which is news and not insulting.

I don't really agree with you hweight, I think the (Generally rightest) fear mongers are doing more of the dividing, there has been a notable increase in crazy rhetoric. But I do agree with the problem being the consumers, I know there are plenty of good reporters that are really just reporting the news, but they are out-voiced by people trying to interpret or straight out make-up the facts.
